FRINGE THEATER PRESENTS SUMMER DRAMA

Fringe Theater presents The Pride, written by Alexi Kaye Campbell, June 4-6 at 7pm at The Studios of Key West. The critically acclaimed drama juxtaposes two storylines of love and betrayal, set 50 years apart.

I love the script, for many reasons,” says director Rebecca Tomlinson, “but one of them is the way the playwright weaves the two stories together. Sylvia, Philip, and Oliver are at the center of both storylines, but how they approach the challenge of living an honest life is quite different in each of the time periods. It’s intriguing.”

The Pride explores parallel love stories. In the 1958 storyline, Philip, who is married to Sylvia, has an illicit (and illegal) affair with Oliver. The three characters grapple with the consequences of infidelity and social shame. In the 2008 storyline, Philip and Oliver are partners who struggle with Oliver’s casual infidelity while both rely on Sylvia for emotional support. This storyline is set against the backdrop of the annual Pride celebration.

The Pride won a Laurence Olivier Award, GLAAD Award, and Critics Circle Award. Adult themes. Explicit language.

The cast of the Fringe production includes Aaron Duclois as Philip, Daniel Bochlas as Oliver, Martha Hooten Hattingh as Sylvia, and Rose Pipkin as The Man. John Reynolds serves as the production’s assistant director, Sam Messier is the stage manager, and Anthony Palmer is the show’s lighting designer.

The Pride is sponsored by the Key West Business Guild and is presented in conjunction with Key West Pride. The show is based on Adult Themes and uses Explicit Language.

The Pride runs June 4-7 at 7pm at The Studios of Key West, located at 533 Eaton Street. Tickets are $35 general admission and $45 reserved seating. Tickets are available online at www.fringetheater.org or 305-731-0581. Fringe Theater is a local nonprofit dedicated to creating unique opportunities for people to see and do theater!
