Following Months Of Advocacy, Mucarsel-Powell Applauds $100 Million Transit Investment In South Florida

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), a leading member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, released the following statement applauding the announcement of a major transit investment in South Florida:

“I’m proud to have led the South Florida congressional delegation in advocating for and winning this much-needed $100,000,000 capital investment grant for Miami-Dade’s transportation system,” said Mucarsel-Powell. “Hard-working Miamians are tired of being stuck in traffic for hours on end, and this project is a first step to alleviating that problem. But we must do more by moving quickly to pass House Democrats’ infrastructure plan that will invest in rail and transit systems, put those affected by the COVID-19 crisis back to work, and fix our highways and bridges. I will continue to fight for more affordable and accessible transit options because they are a socio-economic game-changer for the working families, students, and communities in my district.”

In October 2019, Rep. Mucarsel-Powell led South Florida Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Frederica Wilson, and Donna Shalala in a letter to the Federal Transit Administration in support of Miami-Dade’s South Corridor Rapid Transit Project.

In January 2020, Rep. Mucarsel-Powell unveiled new framework along with House Democrats for a five-year, $760 billion investment that would create an estimated 10 million jobs addressing some of the country’s most urgent infrastructure needs. More here.
