Florida Keys Seafood Festival Fundraiser This Weekend

The Florida Keys Commercial Fishermen’s Association (FKCFA) presents their annual fundraiser this weekend at Bayview Park, located at Truman Avenue and Jose Marti Drive in Key West. The community is invited to enjoy the freshest seafood caught, prepared and served by local fisherman and their families on Saturday, January 13 from 11 am to 8 pm and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm.

This fundraiser supports important sustainable fisheries management programs on both State and Federal levels, marine restoration projects and scholarships for college bound students from Key Largo to Key West. Sustainable fisheries management is an integrated process that seeks to attain an optimal state that balances ecological, economic, social and cultural objectives for fisheries. Admission is just $5, kids under 12 free, and provides an entry to win $250 basket of seafood.

The savory seafood menu features fresh Fried Fish baskets or platters with slaw and black beans & rice, Fried clams basket, Grilled Spiny Lobster Platters, Sampler Platters with fish, stone crab, conch fritter, conch ceviche, key west pink shrimp and French fries, Stone Crab Claws with key lime mustard sauce, peel and eat Key West Pink Shrimp with cocktail sauce, Smoked Fish Dip with crackers, Creamy Lobster Bisque, Bahamian style Conch Chowder, Conch Ceviche, & Conch Fritters. Hot dogs and hamburgers also will be for sale. Beverages include beer, wine, rum ritas, rum runners, water, Pepsi products and Cuban Coffee. Desserts included Estella’s Famous Flan and Natilla, Key Lime Pie and other homemade treats.

The entertainment lineup on Saturday11 am Cayó Ritmo with Mustafa Akbar, 1 pm The Shanty Hounds, 3 pm The Regs, 5 pm Miss Demeanor. Sunday 11 am Miguel Perez & The Square Grouper, 2 pm The Sauce Boss and 3:30 pm an Island Jam with the Bahama Village Social Club.

Free Chef demonstrations at the top of each hour from Hogfish Bar & Grill, Three Hands Fish, Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen & Bar at The Perry Hotel Key West, Ocean Grill & Bar and Lost Kitchen Supper Club Key West/Key West Personal Chef. Local fisherman will also demo seafood cleaning techniques.

Caribee Boat Sales and Marina and Marathon Boat Yard Marine Center will have several boats on display and marine-centric organizations will have hands on educational activities for kids.

Ride a bike, take the bus, uber or a $5 donation per vehicle to the youth at the middle school for parking.
