Florida Keys or Bust Event Benefits Florida Keys History and Discovery Foundation

 

Islamorada, FL – The Florida Keys History and Discovery Foundation is excited to announce a fun new event, Florida Keys or Bust: A Celebration of Tourism, on Thursday, May 16, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at Islander Resort Conference Center, MM 82.

 

Join us as we look back at our community’s tourism roots while enjoying delicious food, fun libations, classic games and shopping to benefit the Foundation, a not-for-profit organization which operates the Keys History & Discovery Center, also on property of the Islander Resort.

 

The night includes:

  • Laid-back reception and classic games such as ping-pong, horseshoes and badminton on the Tarpon Terrace and Great Lawn.
  • Special presentation Florida Keys or Bust: A History of Tourism at 6:15 p.m., by Cori Convertito, Curator, Key West Art & Historical Society.
  • Pop-up shopping provided by Cheeca Lodge & Spa Signature Store and Theater of the Sea with a portion of sales donated to the Foundation.
  • View vintage postcards from local collector Allen Brock and items reflective of the history of tourism in the Upper Keys from the Keys History & Discovery Center vault that have not previously been on display.
  • Raffle tickets are on sale now, $5 each or $20 for five, to win your choice of five fun Keys gift baskets that locals will love! Need not be present to win. Raffle tickets can be purchased at www.keysdiscovery.com/upcoming-events.

About Keys History & Discovery Center:

Keys History & Discovery Center is a world-class museum that preserves and shares the incredible history of our Upper Keys community and explores the unique ecology of the region. In addition to permanent exhibits on subjects such as Henry Flagler’s Over-Sea Railway, Legends of the Line, First People, and Coral Reef Exploration, the Discovery Center offers a lecture series, educating the public through presentations from a variety of expert speakers. The museum’s second floor features a state-of-the-art theater showing documentaries on topics like the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane and Indian Key, as well as traveling exhibits, and the Jerry Wilkinson Research Library. The center, on the property of the Islander Resort, is open Wednesdays through Sundays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
