Florida Keys Guitar Festival Presents Three Master Musicians June 15-17

FLORIDA KEYS — The third annual Florida Keys Guitar Festival is to present classical, contemporary and Latin guitar masters Friday through Sunday, June 15-17, in a series of summer performances for music lovers around the island chain.

The festival is the creation of internationally acclaimed classical guitarist, composer and soloist Mateo Jampol, a longtime Florida Keys resident. His professional credits include being a headliner aboard Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise liner and appearing at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival.

Joining him for the concert series are contemporary fingerstyle guitarist David Feder and Latin guitarist Rolando Rojas. Feder is noted for his island- and flamenco-influenced folk music, while multi-instrumentalist Rojas is best known for his longtime work with the Florida Keys salsa band Caribe.

Titled “Guitar Summit: A Fusion of Master Guitarists,” the series is to open at 8 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Islamorada’s Island Community Church, 83250 Overseas Highway in the Upper Keys.

The musical masters move to Marathon Saturday night for an 8 p.m. concert at the Marathon Community Theatre, 5101 Overseas Highway. The festival’s climax is Sunday’s 8 p.m. concert at the Key West Theater, 512 Eaton St.

At each performance, the three guitarists are to showcase their skills individually and together, sharing their influences and inspirations to create an intimate evening of musical magic.

Also featured is a special performance by vocalist Belle.

In addition, music lovers can meet the guitarists at a brunch set for 11 a.m. Sunday, June 17, at the Margaritaville Key West Resort’s waterfront Bistro 245 at 245 Front St.

Tickets for the concerts are $35 per person, available at KeysTix.com for the Islamorada and Marathon performances, and at thekeywesttheater.com for the Key West performance. Advance purchase is recommended, but tickets also can be purchased at the door.
