Florida jobs agency gets new chief despite murky future

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A former state legislator is taking over Florida’s job recruiting agency.

The board of directors of Enterprise Florida voted Wednesday to hire Chris Hart as the next president and CEO. Hart, who takes over on Jan. 3, has been working as the president and CEO of CareerSource Florida, the state’s job-training organization.

Hart had previously served two terms in the Florida House. The Tampa Republican is taking over Enterprise Florida at a time when its future is in question.

The Florida Legislature this year rejected Gov. Rick Scott’s push for $250 million in economic incentives. New House Speaker Richard Corcoran has already suggested eliminating all funding for the agency.

Hart succeeds Bill Johnson, who was forced out of his job earlier this year after clashing with legislators.
