Florida Department Of Health In Monroe County Wraps Up Smoke-Free Multi-Unit Housing Grant

The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County’s Smoke-Free Monroe County Grant from the Health Foundation of South Florida has successfully worked to promote Smoke-Free Multi-Unit dwellings over the past two years with Gayle Glover serving as the coordinator for the grant.  Under Glover’s direction, the department has successfully converted 18 multi-unit properties in Monroe County to either a 100 percent smoke-free property or smoke-free inside of the units with designated smoking areas on the property.  Glover presented the last of 18 crystal trophies on the last day of the grant on March 31 to Keys Lakes Villas in Key Largo. The trophy recognizes multi-unit dwellings that have gone smoke-free for “Leadership for Vision and Commitment to the Highest Quality Standards for Clean Air.”  Although the grant ended on March 31, the work to promote smoke-free multi-unit properties for Monroe County residents will continue through the department’s Tobacco Prevention Program, led by Donna Stayton, and funded by the Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida.  For more information, call (305) 809-5638.
