Fleeing motorist arrested on multiple drug charges

A 31-year-old Fort Lauderdale, Florida man was arrested Saturday night after an array of drugs were found in a car he used to flee from Deputies.

Bernard Aurice Green was charged with fleeing and eluding, trafficking in methamphetamine, trafficking in heroin, trafficking in MDMA or ecstasy, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a revoked or suspended license.

Deputy Jorge Moreno was on patrol near Mile Marker 83 at approximately 8:26 p.m. when he observed a Hyundai make an illegal U-turn causing multiple vehicles to slam on their brakes to avoid crashing. Deputy Moreno got behind the northbound Hyundai and turned on his lights and sirens. The suspect stopped just north of the Snake Creek Bridge, but speed away as Deputy Moreno approached.

The suspect sped past cars in no-passing zones, forcing other motorists off U.S. 1. and nearly colliding with others. Deputy Moreno eventually terminated his pursuit for safety reasons.

Deputy Joel Torres successfully spiked the Hyundai’s tires near Mile Marker 99.

The suspect driver, later identified as Green, stopped near Mile Marker 100 and fled on foot. Green was eventually detained with the help of the Florida Highway Patrol and multiple Deputies. A female passenger was not located.

The following was found in the car:

  • 46.8 grams of methamphetamine
  • 12 grams of MDMA or ecstasy
  • 4.5 grams of heroin
  • 1.2 grams of cocaine
  • Glass pipes, syringes, two digital scales, plastic baggies and other drug paraphernalia

Green was taken to jail.
