FKCC Students Make All-Florida Academic Team

FKCC students, Marcel Hatter and Matthew Gersh (seated), were accompanied to the All-Florida Academic Team awards banquet by Dr. Michelle Walsh, FKCC Marine Science Professor and Phi Theta Kappa club advisor, and Dr. Brittany Snyder, FKCC Vice President of Academic Affairs.

KEY WEST, FL, May 2, 2016—Two Florida Keys Community College students, Matthew Gersh and Marcel Hatter, were named to the 2016 All-Florida Academic Team, which is comprised of the best and brightest students in the Florida College System’s 28 institutions.  The 128 team members were nominated by the local colleges’ chapters of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), an international honor society among two-year colleges, for their academic achievement, leadership, and service to the community.  Gersh and Hatter were formally recognized with a medallion at an awards banquet in Tampa on April 21.

Gersh will graduate from FKCC on Friday and then continue his studies at Eckerd College.  Hatter graduated from FKCC last fall and has spent the past semester studying at Florida International University.  He will be returning to his home state to attend the Ohio State University this fall.

“I’m pleased to congratulate each of these high achieving students who earned a place on the All-Florida Academic Team,” said Division of Florida Colleges Chancellor Madeline Pumariega. “Their academic achievements coupled with their dedication to leadership and service inside and outside the classroom serve as a model for Florida College System students across our great state of Florida. I look forward to celebrating their future successes as they pursue a career.”
