FKCC Presents Talk on International Education

VIP Series features Vision, Ideas, and Perspectives

KEY WEST, FL, February 28, 2017— Florida Keys Community College’s VIP Series of speakers continues with “International Education: Exchanging Cultures and Shared Learning” on Wednesday, March 8 at 7p.m. in the Tennessee Williams Theatre on the Key West Campus. The presentation will feature a panel of individuals with global learning experience to discuss the value of international education from a variety of perspectives.

The College welcomes Dr. Daris Hale, a Fulbright Scholar, musician, and humanitarian, to lead the presentation alongside FKCC Professor Melissa Nicholas. Hale will share tales of her time teaching music and studying culture in Eastern Africa. Nicholas recently returned from a 10-month stint as an English Language Fellow with the U.S. State Department teaching at the University of Zululand in South Africa. Providing student viewpoints will be two of FKCC’s international students: Rawia Khchini from Tunisia and Elie El Hachem from Lebanon. The conversation will be facilitated by Andreea Mihalcea, the College’s Hospitality and Ecotourism Program Chair. Originally from Transylvania, Romania, she is a beneficiary of international learning opportunities with a collection of global experiences on her resume.

Tickets are $5 at the door. Admission is free for students at FKCC and Monroe County schools. The event is sponsored by Centennial Bank.

In its fourth season, the College’s VIP Series invites the community to learn from the visions, ideas, and perspectives of speakers of local, regional, and national prominence. The 2017 season, sponsored by Centennial Bank, includes a total of four evening presentations focusing on timely and relevant topics. All will be held in the Tennessee Williams Theatre on the Key West Campus.
