FKCC Graduates Corrections Academy

KEY WEST, FL, April 3, 2018—Florida Keys Community College (FKCC) held a graduation ceremony for its fifty-third and fifty-fourth Correctional Officer Training (COT) Academies on Friday in the Tennessee Williams Theatre on the Key West Campus.  Twelve students successfully completed the 420-hour training program through the College’s Institute for Public Safety.

Through a partnership with the Monroe County Sheriff Office (MCSO), all graduates have already secured employment at one of the three corrections centers in the Keys.  During the ceremony, Sheriff Rick Ramsay presented each graduate with a badge reflecting their new roles as Florida Corrections Officers.

Special accolades were presented to top performing students.  Class Captain Joshua Brady earned the Leadership Award as well as the “Top Gun” award for superior shooting skills.  Kenny Miller was recognized for academic achievement and Jasmyn Acevedo and Elias Emmanuel were recognized for Physical Fitness.  The coveted “PIG” award was presented to Marissa Lockwood for demonstrating pride, integrity, and guts.

FKCC’s Correctional Officer Training program satisfies the training requirements of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.  FKCC is currently accepting applications for Basic Law Enforcement academies that begin in May at the Key West Campus as well as the Upper Keys Center in Tavernier.  For more information about FKCC’s Institute for Public Safety, visit http://www.fkcc.edu/academics/basicrecruit/.
