FKCC Earns National Accreditation for Nursing Degree

KEY WEST, FL, September 4, 2018—Florida Keys Community College started the new academic year with its first national designation for its Associate in Science (A.S.) in Nursing.  The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN) granted the College’s nursing program official accreditation after an extensive, three-year process that included a self-study report, site visit, and evaluation by a panel of experts from the accrediting agency.  ACEN accreditation is a broadly recognized seal of approval that reflects an institution’s adherence to the highest quality standards of nursing education and training.  FKCC, and all of its programs, maintains regional accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).  Additionally, the College’s Nursing program is approved by the Florida State Board of Nursing.

“ACEN accreditation validates the instructional excellence provided by the FKCC faculty and staff and the generous support that the community has for the program,” said Mark Roby, FKCC’s Dean of Sciences and Nursing.  “This accreditation opens up additional employment opportunities for our graduates as well as the potential for additional clinical sites and funding opportunities for our students.  We are proud to be able to offer this level of excellence to the community.”

For more than 50 years, FKCC has played a critical role in healthcare services in the Keys.  The two-year A.S. in Nursing program trains students to become Registered Nurses (RNs), upon passing the national licensure exam.  The College maintains an exceptionally high passage rate of its graduates achieving RN licensure.  FKCC will expand the program to include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in fall 2019, pending approval from SACSCOC.  The BSN program provides the next step for RNs to continue to acquire specialized knowledge and skills to meet growing demands in a variety of healthcare settings.

FKCC is currently accepting applications for the spring 2019 nursing cohorts in Key West and the Upper Keys.  Applications are due October 15.  To learn more about FKCC’s Nursing and Allied Health programs, visit https://www.fkcc.edu/academics/allied-health-and-nursing/.
