FKAA to Discuss Budget and Emergency Water Supply at Its Meeting Wednesday, July 26th 10:30 AM at the Mosquito Control Facility in Marathon

Florida Keys – July 24, 2017 – The Board will be considering options to repair/upgrade/expand the emergency RO facility located on Stock Island, provide redundancy on bridge crossings located in the Upper Keys and replace areas of transmission pipeline that is vulnerable. The Board is considering borrowing up to $50,000,000.00 to fund these projects. The cost to upgrade the RO facility on Stock Island to a four million gallon a day facility would cost up to $38,000,000.00. Should the Board opt to proceed with all these projects a water rate increase of 5% percent for 2017 and 2018 is being considered.

The Board will be discussing the level of service that will be provided to its customers as it considers emergency water supply options and costs of these projects. The level of services range from having no water available during an emergency to having a reduced production of potable water. The cost of these options varies.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the Board Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, 2017. The Meeting will begin at 10:30 AM at the Florida Keys Mosquito Control District facility located at 503 107th street in Marathon, FL.
