Fisheries Management and Regulations Workshop

 

Did you know in the Florida Keys fishing regulations can be very different if you are fishing in the Gulf of Mexico/Florida Bay or the Atlantic Ocean?

Florida Sea Grant and UF/IFAS Extension announce an upcoming FREE workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 12 in Marathon that is focused on marine fisheries management and regulations.

The workshop, hosted in collaboration with the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council and the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council, will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the Marathon Government Center, 2798 Overseas Highway, on the second floor BOCC room.

The public is invited to attend. The workshop is recommended for park rangers, natural resource professionals, law enforcement officers, educators, marina staff and others who regularly interact with recreational anglers.

Items on the agenda include:

  • Florida fisheries management and state rule updates;
  • Gulf council and federal rule updates;
  • Barotrauma mitigation;
  • Offshore and inshore fish species updates
  • FWC law enforcement question-and-answer session
