FIRST PITCH OF THE UPPER KEYS LITTLE LEAGUE SEASON AT HARRY HARRIS PARK THROWN BY MONROE COUNTY’S ROBERT GLASSMER

TAVERNIER, FL – Robert Glassmer, Monroe County Administrator of Buildings, Parks and Beaches in the Upper Keys, was honored to be invited to the mound to throw the first pitch of the Upper Keys Little League season on Saturday morning. He helped spearhead the effort to get the ball fields ready in time for the season. Glassmer also cut the ceremonial grand opening ribbon.

“Normally we don’t make a big deal about Saturday morning, but this year it is a really big deal because after Hurricane Irma we didn’t have these fields,” said Jenn Weiden, President of the Upper Keys Little League. “It is a really big deal about the fact that Monroe County Parks and Recreation got these fields online in time for this year’s season and for all the kids who love to play.”

The Monroe County Facilities Maintenance crew replaced 600 tons of clay contaminated with seaweed and saltwater intrusion, repaired the irrigation system, replaced the electric in the concession stand, built new dugouts, replaced fencing, and installed new dugout seats and bleachers.

“We wanted to take a few minutes to show Robert and the County our gratefulness,” said Weiden.
