Film Review – The Passion of Luciano Pavarotti

The biographical documentary film, PAVAROTTI, directed by Ron Howard, will take you on an amazing and emotional ride. I first heard and saw Pavarotti in the early 1980s and I was captivated for life by his incredible voice, his warmth and charm. He seemed transparent and vulnerable, and (without knowing him) you knew he was a great friend.

Without being obvious or in the way, the film captures the life and passion of this special talent by making it personal and bringing the audience into the family, friendships, music and life of a loving but imperfect man. Both Luciano and the music are irresistible. The “cast” consists of family, friends, celebrities, royalty, as well as children, the poor and sick for whom he did so much. Pavarotti was a rock star and charismatic friend of the 3 Tenors, Bono, Princess Diana, Zubin Mehta and thousands of lives he touched in one way or another.

Sophisticated film critics will find things to quibble about, but you’ll love the music, the human journey and this rare human being who is no longer with us. Don’t miss it, and bring a handkerchief.
