Felon arrested after hidden firearms found

Fifty-one-year-old Scott Stewart MacQuarrie of Marathon was arrested Monday after thousands of rounds of ammunition and firearms were found hidden at his residence.

MacQuarrie was convicted of sexual battery in 2002 and it is illegal for him to possess firearms or ammunition.

The Sheriff’s Office received information MacQuarrie had weapons and obtained a search warrant. Detectives found a Taurus 9mm handgun and ammunition, approximately 1,500 rounds of 5.56-caliber rifle ammunition, several hundred rounds of .308-caliber rifle ammunition, and roughly 1,000 rounds of shotgun shells, hidden in a secret compartment in a bathroom ceiling and in a shop area of the property.

Shawnna Kaye Conerly, 30, was at the scene and in possession of Xanax and alprazolam pills without a prescription. She was also arrested.

Computer scam reported to Sheriff’s Office

The Sheriff’s Office has received reports of scammers posing as computer professionals over the phone with residents looking to resolve a computer problem. The computer issue may be real or invented by the scammers.

The scammers attempt to steal money from victims by asking for banking, credit card, or other financial information over the phone.

One resident who was having trouble logging into an AOL account recently came close to losing $90,000 in such a scam. Fortunately, the would-be victim stopped providing information to the criminals before they could steal the money.

If you are asked for personal financial information or large sums of money over the phone, hang up. Contact your bank or a law enforcement officer.
