ENCHANTED APRIL ENDS THIS WEEKEND

Only a few chances remain to become enchanted by the Waterfront Playhouse’s acclaimed production of “Enchanted April.” The production will end Saturday, April 30th.

Social media has lit up with raves about “Enchanted April”: “An enchanting evening”; “rife with charming portrayals and exquisite costumes in a luscious setting. Do make the trip to ‘Paradiso’”; “great cast, great set design, great direction, great time!”; “I thought it might be sappy, but it was thought provoking, curiously intriguing and hilariously funny!” and “Thank You for another great show at the Waterfront Playhouse.”

Nominated for a Best Play Tony Award,  “Enchanted April” is based on the novel by Elizabeth von Arnim and was adapted for the stage by Matthew Barber. Directed by the Waterfront’s Artistic Director, the play features a stunning Act II set by set designer, Michael Boyer; beautiful 1920’s period costumes by Leigh Hooten; evocative lighting by John Jaworski and appropriately period props by Carmen Rodriguez. Stage management is conducted by Annie Miners.

The outstanding cast includes both veterans of the Waterfront, as well as new talent. Elena Devers (Lotty) and Nicole Nurenberg (Rose) play the two London housewives, who recruit Chris Stone’s stodgy Mrs. Graves (think Maggie Smith in “Downton Abbey”) and Erika Butters’ upper class party girl, Lady Caroline, to join them on their adventure. The pompous husbands are played by David Black and John Reynolds, with imported Equity actor Ryan Didato as the handsome and charming owner of the villa and Mary Falconer as Constanza, the sassy Italian cook and housekeeper.

The play takes place in 1922, in the post WWI years, as a gloom still hangs over London. Lotty and Rose are two housewives who need some enchantment in their lives. Impulsively, Lotty answers an ad in the paper that reads, “Small castle on the Mediterranean, Northern Italy. To be let for April. Cook, gardens, ocean view.” And so their adventure begins. Recruiting two upper class women in need of escape, they dive into the experience of a lifetime, rediscovering themselves among the wine, wisteria and sunshine in a play that is timeless, funny and joyfully restorative.

Do yourself a favor and spend an evening with these vivid and hilarious characters as they pursue romance amidst the wisteria and sunshine in this enchanting play.

Tickets are $40 and are available at www.waterfrontplayhouse.org or at 305-294-5015. Please go to the website or call the box office for details for discount specials such as our Friday Night Date Night. The production is sponsored by The Florida Keys Keynoter.
