Drugs by Mail Lead to Arrest
On January 25th, the Key West Police Department Special Investigations Unit and Special Response Team executed a search warrant at 301 White Street, Apartment 3D with the assistance of Homeland Security Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The search warrant was obtained after detectives and special agents initiated a narcotics investigation based on complaints of drug sales in the residence.
Detectives intercepted a package of narcotics that was mailed to Apartment 3D and prepared a search warrant to retrieve the package upon delivery.
As a result of the search warrant, Danniell Joline Edwards, 42, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The investigation led to the seizure of 12.1 grams of MDMA, .7 grams of heroin, 5.5 grams of “crack” cocaine and 3.1 grams of powder cocaine. All narcotics were individually packaged for sales.
The investigation into the use of mail to distribute narcotics is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
