DOOR-TO-DOOR MAGNETS REMIND RESIDENTS TO DUMP DENGUE

Monroe County, Fla—For the next few weeks, Florida Keys Mosquito Control District (FKMCD) inspectors, in partnership with the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County (DOH-Monroe), will be providing free refrigerator magnets that promote the “Dump Dengue” campaign and serve as a reminder for residents to continue taking the necessary measures to prevent mosquito-borne diseases. Dengue fever has been evident in the Florida Keys since early this year. If you see anyone of these FKMCD inspectors out on their routine inspections, feel free to say hello and ask for a magnet. Inspectors will also provide these magnets to residents during their routine inspections.

Measures for preventing mosquito-borne disease include intact windows and screens and the use of air conditioning, keeping the area around your residence and business free from containers that collect water, wearing protective clothing, appropriate use of insect repellents after applying sunscreen, regularly spraying out outdoor plants such as bromeliads and crotons, and draining all standing water at least once per week.

For more information or to make a service request, please contact FKMCD at (305) 292-7190. For more information about the status of Dengue in the Florida Keys, visit: www.tinyurl.com/mosquitosurveillance.
