With flu season in full swing, the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County urges residents and visitors to practice healthy habits to help prevent the spread of infection.  Cleaning hands at key times with soap and water can help stop the spread of many respiratory illnesses, including the flu.   If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer.  Cleaning and disinfecting commonly touched surfaces at home, school, and the office should be done regularly.  When coughing or sneezing, use a tissue, or cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve and not your hands. Flu vaccines and good hand hygiene are still the go-to recommendations for prevention; however, it is just as important to contain the virus and stay home when sick.
