DIAPER NEEDS AWARENESS WEEK RECOGNIZED BY THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONROE COUNTY, FL – The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed Sept. 27 through Oct. 3 as National Diaper Need Awareness Week in Monroe County. Monroe County thanks diaper banks and their staff, volunteers, and donors for their service and encourages the citizens of Monroe County to donate to diaper banks, diaper drives, and support those organizations that collect and distribute diapers to families struggling with diaper needs.

Diaper need is the condition of not having a sufficient supply of clean diapers to keep babies and toddlers clean, dry, and healthy. National surveys and research studies report that one in three families struggle with diaper needs, and 48 percent of families delay changing a diaper to extend the available supply. Infants and toddlers go through six to 12 diapers each day during the two to three years they wear diapers, and purchasing diapers can consume 14 percent of a low-wage family’s post-tax income.

The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners recognizes trusted community-based organizations, like the Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition, that distribute diapers to families and the staff and volunteers who continue to serve on the front lines of Monroe County COVID-19 pandemic response.
