DEO Opens First “Rebuild Florida” Center in Marathon

Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Executive Director Cissy Proctor opened the first of nine Rebuild Florida centers around the state. Monroe County staff have been working for months to help with the program.

DEO’s news release can be found at: http://www.floridajobs.org/news-center/DEO-Press/2018/09/24/deo-launches-rebuild-florida-providing-$616-million-to-help-floridians-repair-and-rebuild-homes-damaged-by-hurricane-irma

Phase 1 of Rebuild Florida is funded with a $616 million grant from the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD). This money will go to families/residents to repair or rebuild their homes or rental properties that were destroyed or severely damaged by Hurricane Irma. It’s for residents with low to moderate incomes or for property owners who rent to people with low to moderate incomes.

At the Rebuild Florida center, case managers are available to help homeowners register for the program.

The center, located at 2796 Overseas Highway, 2nd Floor, in Marathon (the state building next to the Marathon Government Center), will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It will be the only center in the Keys. Residents only need to bring ID to register.

There also will be mobile centers traveling the state, beginning Oct. 1. The schedule will be made public when it is available.

Monroe County residents also can call 1-844-833-1010 or go to www.rebuildflorida.gov to register.

If you filled out an Interest Survey with Monroe County about any of the possible repair or rebuild grant programs, you will be contacted about Rebuild Florida. But you should still register directly with Rebuild Florida by either of the four ways listed above.

For more information, go to the Monroe County website’s Hurricane Irma Recovery page at https://www.monroecounty-fl.gov/726/Hurricane-Irma-Recovery.
