D.C. Women’s March Organizers in Key West and The Florida Keys Continue to Organize and Join Women’s March Movement in Florida

Key West, FL –  The Florida Keys Area of the Women’s March on Washington Florida chapter – the women who inspired the organizing of thousands in attendance at 18 Florida sister solidarity marches and who sent over 27,000 people in Florida to Washington for the most attended march on Washington in history – are forming a non-profit (501c4) at the state level and local levels to continue the grassroots mobilizing and organizing efforts that were built during the nine weeks of organizing for the Women’s March on Washington.
The “Women’s March Florida” mobilization efforts are inspired by the women and community centered model that built the Women’s March on Washington and will follow a soon to be released organizing model known as the “Women’s Way Forward”. The Women’s March Florida grassroots organizing will be centered around unity, equality, and diversity and our determination as women and allies to protect those most at risk and most dehumanized by corrupt local, state and federal agendas of hate, bigotry, deregulation, and intolerance.
We believe that everyone suffers when our communities suffer, be it black and brown people, LGBTQIA+ people, native people, immigrants of all status, people with disabilities, survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault, as well as Muslim and other diverse minority religious faiths.
We believe that together we can defend Women’s Rights and Human Rights and that women make up the backbone and foundation of every community and that all communities suffer when women suffer.
We are banded together to peacefully protect and defend ourselves and the most vulnerable among us and we are not afraid.
We are holding our first local organizing meeting on February 4th in all seventeen areas around the state. At those meetings we will announce our eight point issue/policy agenda and develop local agendas shaped by the diversity and autonomy of each local community. We invite all those who attended the Women’s March on Washington, local Florida sister solidarity Women’s Marches and all others who are interested to attend.
