COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PROCLAIM MAY 11-17 AS LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL WEEK

MONROE COUNTY, FL – The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners declared the week of May 11-17 Law Enforcement Memorial Week. Honor Guard Commander Deputy Andrew Leird, center, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at the April meeting.

“Law enforcement officers steadfastly provide an extraordinary level of service for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, under often-difficult and dangerous circumstances,” said Monroe County Mayor David Rice. “Many law enforcement officers have made the supreme sacrifice for their communities. We pause every year to honor the memory of these officers and the officers who have lost their lives serving the citizens of Monroe County.”

On Friday, May 13, the community will have the opportunity to pay tribute to those brave men and women who have fallen in the line of duty. The annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service begins at 5 p.m. at Bayview Park in Key West. Hosted by the Key West Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the ceremony includes a traditional laying of the wreath and a 21-gun salute. Monroe County Commissioner Jim Scholl is attending the ceremony to present the County’s proclamation.
