Cosmetic Shop Sues Shirlee and Rip-Off Team Members
Oro Gold the notorious Duval Street cosmetic shop is suing ninety-two-year-old Shirlee Ezmirly and thirteen other local consumer activists who have been picketing the store since December 24.
Shirlee, the inspirational leader of The Key West Rip-Off Rapid Response Team is named as a defendant in a law suit claiming libel and tortious interference of business. The business claims losses of more than $250,000 because of sidewalk picketing.
Shirlee has been outspoken in her contempt for the local cosmetics shops and says, “I want them gone. They’re terrible what they do.”
Shirlee is a United States military veteran and a Key West resident for more than forty years. She pickets the business at 518 Duval every Tuesday from 2:30 to 4:00 pm. She said “If they think they can scare me and stop me from picketing next Tuesday they are wrong!”
.Tevis Wernicoff spokesperson for the team said, “The best defense against libel is truth and we will be vigorously defending ourselves against this frivolous suit. We are also actively recruiting new members who want to help fight these businesses that give all of Key West a bad name”.
