Contractor arrested for theft
A 69-year-old Hialeah, Florida contractor wanted in Monroe County for grand theft has been arrested in Miami-Dade County.
Valerio Cerron was charged with multiple counts of grand theft.
According to the Sheriff’s Office investigation, Cerron took approximately $55,000 from the victims for construction work to be done to a home that was either not completed or never done.
Warrants were obtained for Cerron’s arrest and he was taken into custody in Miami-Dade County on Tuesday.
Woman arrested for fleeing
A 40-year-old New Paltz, New York woman was arrested Wednesday for fleeing from the Sheriff’s Office in the Lower Keys.
Yelizaveta Polishchuk was charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, and resisting arrest.
The Sheriff’s Office observed a Chrysler minivan on the side of U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 30 at approximately 1:08 a.m. When the Sheriff’s Office approached, the driver, later identified as Polishchuk, drove away at a high rate of speed.
Polishchuk continued to speed on U.S. 1, driving erratically, until the minivan’s tires were successfully spiked near Mile Marker 11. Polishchuk continued to flee, throwing items from the vehicle and varying speeds from 20 mph to 70 mph, until finally stopping near Mile Marker 5.5.
Key West Police Department Officers assisted with the traffic stop. Polishchuk was screaming and refused to exit the vehicle. She continued to throw random objects out of the vehicle. Eventually, Polishchuk was pulled from the vehicle and taken into custody.
