Community Wins: Key Lime Aid Challenge set to help Monroe County’s most vulnerable

Introducing . . . The Key Lime Aid Challenge, an eight week virtual fundraiser designed to bring people together to help other community members during a challenging time, all the while having fun and keeping fit.

Everyone’s a winner in this unique, locally-organized, and non-competitive event. Participants needn’t be athletes themselves; just positive souls from all walks of life wanting to help other humans in need.

Walkers/runners/swimmers/cyclists/weightlifters, etc. may set goals for distance, time spent working out, etc., and receive goodie bags, medals and other great event swag to show off to their friends.

In this way those taking part really can “choose their own adventure,” as they pick one or more activities, and record their time/distance, etc., for posterity.

“You can stroll, walk, run, pedal, paddle, or any other exercise of your choice,” said Key Lime Aid co-organizer Bernadette Restivo. “We encourage everyone to get a challenge buddy, and get started whenever they want. Just remember, it ends on Oct. 16.”

All proceeds from the $25 registration fee, and sales of T-shirts and more will be given to the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys for distribution, in the name of Community Wins, a concept developed by AIDS Help of Monroe County, Inc., to raise money for clients during a difficult year bereft of its major annual fundraising event, the Fantasy Fest King and Queen campaign.

Community Wins is raising funds for rent and mortgage assistance to those most vulnerable in Key West and Monroe County during the COVID-19 pandemic.

So, start today, and become part of the wave of positive change arising from the grassroots of your community.
