Community Partners Receive Helmet Certification

The Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition and the Florida Department of Health partnered in hosting two bike helmet certification courses in Key Largo and Key West, on March 23 and 24 respectively.  The certification course, managed by the Florida Pedestrian and Bicycling Resource Center, provides participants with the skills necessary to educate residents on bike safety, appropriate helmet fitting, helmet laws, road rules, and bike injury prevention.  Those who become certified are eligible to receive free helmets and other educational information and promotional items to distribute to the community at no cost.  Twenty two Monroe County residents participated in the course, including representatives from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office,  Department of Environmental Protection, the Wesley House, Florida Keys Outreach Coalition, Monroe County Coalition, Monroe County Fire Rescue, Key West Fire Department, and more.
