COMMUNITY GIFTS HELP TWO WORTHY KEY WEST ORGANIZATIONS IMPACTED BY HURRICANE IRMA

Sister Season Fund –Locals Helping Locals & Key West High School Band Awarded by Krewe of Key West Mardi Gras Organization

KEY WEST, FL – Two Key West organizations were awarded for service to the community as recipients of annual giving from the Mystick Krewe of Key West. In check presentation ceremonies two organizations shared 11,500.00. Krewe Captain, Val Marmillion, noted, “Sister Season Fund and the Key West High School Band serve Key West in very different ways and were impacted as Hurricane Irma disrupted our community.”

Sister Season Fund focuses its efforts on hospitality industry workers who have been displaced or out of steady work due to storm disruptions or damage. The needs are great in the lower Keys, with businesses catering to visitors still closed or slow to reopen. The Fund helps to ensure that service employees can pay rent and provide for families during the forced downturn.

The Key West High School Marching Conchs Band brings pride and spirit to events and countless community events. Following Hurricane Irma, the band has been without support from its annual fall fundraising activities, which have traditionally provided supplies and equipment for the band and a major source of support for band uniform replacement.

“The Krewe is committed to strengthening all aspects of our Key West community and we wanted to focus our giving in this year of Irma on strengthening families and opportunities for youth,” said Marmillion.
