In an effort to expand access to green spaces for children, families, and the entire community, District 4 City Commissioner Lissette Carey has requested regular park hours be extended to the Wicker’s Sports Complex this summer. As a result, the Wickers Field Sports Complex is now open for recreation during while school is out and matches all other park schedules.

This initiative reflects Commissioner Carey’s commitment to promoting active, outdoor lifestyles and ensuring that all residents have safe and accessible spaces to enjoy during the summer months.

Commissioner Carey has officially initiated a series of vital canal restoration efforts aimed at improving water quality and mitigating flooding in the area. These projects include restoration work on the Salt Run Channel as well as the network of waterways that connect to the Riviera Canal.

By restoring these critical waterways, the city aims to enhance stormwater flow, reduce pollution, and improve the overall health of our local ecosystem. These improvements are part of a broader commitment to sustainability and resilience in our coastal and canal-front communities.

At the request of her constituents, Commissioner Carey has worked closely with city staff to install safety bollards at Staples Bridge. These bollards are designed to help manage bicycle traffic, ensuring that cyclists travel at safe speeds and enhancing the safety of pedestrians who use the bridge.

A big thank you goes out to the Key West Police Department for monitoring the area and slowing down traffic until the bollards are installed.
