Commission Commends Barry Gibson
The City Commission started off this week’s meeting remembering and commending former City Commissioner Barry Gibson, who served as the District IV Commissioner from 2007 to 2011. He passed away last month.
His wife Trish Gibson accepted the proclamation, noting how very much her husband loved the community and loved his role as a public servant. She noted that he also served on many volunteer boards, including Take Stock in Children, the Navy League and the Key West Bight Board, on which he served until his death. He was a board member of Rotary, the Jaycees, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and the American Red Cross of the Florida Keys.
The commendation notes how much he loved golf, fishing, boating with his wife and daughter, and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Trish, in accepting the honor, noted that her husband was passionately dedicated to Key West. She added that his last wish was that all of his friends and family over the age of 45 get a colonoscopy.
