City Commission Honors Outgoing Board

The Key West City Commission, during Tuesday’s regular meeting, gave recognition to the members of the Truman Waterfront Advisory Board. The board, now that the Truman Waterfront Park is nearing completion, has been sunsetted.

Mayor Teri Johnston noted that the waterfront park is nearing the final phase of development with the creation of multiuse sports fields.

“Over the years,” she said, “there have been hundreds of people involved in this. We seated a board in 2009 to oversee construction of the park. It was a tremendous effort by a lot of people.”

Mayor Johnston then named the men and women who served on the board:

Al Sullivan and Jim Gilleran served for ten years, from its inception until the board was dissolved this month.

Robert Cintron came on the board in 2012, Ben Volpian in 2015, and Colleen Mellies in 2016.

In addition, Mayor Johnston gave a shout out to other members of the community who dedicated many hours and months to ensuring the park encompassed the vision and needs of the Key West community.
