Chris Massicotte Announces Candidacy for Monroe County Commissioner District 3, Prioritizing Fiscal Responsibility and Community Engagement

Key West, FL February 5, 2024– Chris Massicotte, an experienced accountant and auditor, officially declares candidacy for Monroe County Commissioner District 3, focusing on critical issues and fostering a conversation about the future sustainability of the Florida Keys. “I’m running for commissioner because we need to open a dialogue about how we are going to address some very significant issues such as spending, taxes, infrastructure, growth, and potential takings cases. What we decide today is going to affect what the Keys will be like in 20 years. We cannot have that conversation without a campaign and without alternatives to the status quo.” Massicotte said.

With a background in accounting and auditing, Massicotte pledges to be a vigilant watchdog, scrutinizing every expenditure and ensuring the wise allocation of resources. “We need to bring transparency and accountability to the county’s budget, which has surged by an alarming 44% in the past two years,” he added.

Acknowledging the pressing issue of affordable housing, Chris Massicotte is committed to tackling the rising property tax bills on workforce housing, aiming to make housing more accessible for all residents.

“Renters in the Keys take the biggest hit from runaway property tax hikes, because there are no homestead exemptions on long term rental properties. We have all had that conversation with friends and family struggling to find housing or make ends meet in the housing they’re in. I’m tired of watching my friends have to leave the Keys, not because they want to, but because they are left with no other choice. The actions of the BOCC over the last two years have made the problem worse, not better.”

Chris Massicotte envisions building a Monroe County that is financially responsible, transparent, and prioritizes the well-being of its residents.
