Chief Commends Six Officers

During a recent awards ceremony at the Grand Key Resort, Key West Police Chief Donie Lee commended six officers for their exemplary performance that resulted in.

On February 28th, Officers Brett DeHanas, Justin Elsmore, Jeremey Tellier, Alex Rodriguez and JT Conaty and Sgt. Frank Duponty responded to a call involving a woman who was possibly suicidal. When they arrived, the officers saw the woman was bleeding and armed with a large knife.

She slammed the door shut and Officer Elsmore, fearing for her safety and for others that might be in the house, kicked in the front door. The woman then barricaded herself in the bathroom.

Officer Rodriguez established communications with the subject, and Sgt. Frank Duponty continued trying to reason with the subject until a negotiator arrived. Detective Darnell Sealey arrived and eventually was able to convince the barricaded woman to cooperate, and she was transported for treatment.
