Chef’s Appreciation Week

Mayor Craig Cates has joined the National Pink Tie Organization by proclaiming this week Chef’s Appreciation Week. The organization has banded together chefs from all over the world in support of fellow chefs who are facing cancer.

“Historically,” reads the proclamation, “chefs have shown great compassion to others; the very word restaurant is derived from the French word restaurer which mean to restore. The first restaurants were establishments that sold meals intended to restore strength to those who were not feeling well.”

Donald Crutch and Blue Reef Catering Chef Michael Fahey accepted the proclamation. Crutch noted that every city in Florida as passed a similar proclamation, and that the organization “had saved the best for last” in coming to Key West.

“Few things are better for both the body and the soul than a well-crafted, sublimely prepared, and lovingly presented meal,” the proclamation continues. “NPTO Chefs have made the commitment that their colleagues will not be alone in their fight against this horrible disease.
