Chamber Of Commerce Select Teachers To Receive Monetary Awards For Their Classrooms

Key West, Fla. – Key West Chamber of Commerce officials have awarded 11 Monroe County School District teachers’

classrooms with $250 each. Keys Energy Services, the Wicker House, and Margaritaville Resort & Marina donated the funds to

‘Sponsor-A-Classroom’ for use by selected teachers through the Chamber’s Education Committee.

The lucky teachers who were nominated by Chamber members were selected via a drawing. The following teachers will receive a check for their classroom from the Chamber thanks to generous donations:

Key West Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President Virginia A. Panico, said, the Chamber has been dedicated to supporting District teachers and students for many years . “We believe in educating our youth and also thanking our teachers by sponsoring their classrooms with gift donations solicited from Key West businesses. The importance of higher education has always been first and foremost for the Chamber. That’s why the membership awards four scholarships to deserving students every year. We also understand teachers should receive the most current business education to pass

along to students in their classes, so, we established the Educational Enrichment Program that offers our educators, on their summer break, the opportunity to obtain additional training to bring back to the classroom.”

The Chamber also awards more than $30,000 to students at Key West High School, one of the three high schools in the District. The Monroe County School District serves approximately 8,800 students throughout the upper, middle, lower keys, and Key West.
