Burglary arrest/illegal fish case made following traffic stop

A Miami-Dade County father and son were given mandatory notices to appear in court Sunday after they were found with illegal fish and the son was additionally charged with burglary after stolen fishing rods were also found. 

Giovanny Lluis, 46, and Kristofer Jovany Lluis, 26, both were cited for possessing one undersized mangrove snapper, possessing 14 over-the-bag-limit mangrove snapper and possessing 14 mangrove snapper-over-the-aggregate-bag-limit (10) pertaining to snapper.

Kristofer Jovany Lluis was also charged with burglary.

Sgt. James Hager stopped a 1999 Honda at approximately 6:07 a.m. at Mile Marker 105 because the license plate was displayed improperly. Both men were inside the car.

A cooler inside the car contained 19 mangrove snapper.

Also inside the car were two fishing rods with distinct writing on them that Sgt. Hager identified from a previous residential burglary on Gulfside Drive in Islamorada in May.

Detective Matthew O’Neill identified the Honda as the suspect vehicle in the May burglary as well.

Both men were taken to jail. 

The burglary investigation remains ongoing and more charges may be pending.
