We should do all that we can to help protect the reef. People need to understand that there are viable alternatives as there are misinformation campaigns that are being waged by the large manufacturers of the harmful products.

The coral reef ecosystem fuels the local economy and way of life. Protecting and restoring it should be high priorities.
Please provide the cited proof of statements regarding ingredients that are harmful and any supporting proof of replacement sunscreen relieving pressure on our already damaged reef. I would gladly vote to ban any substance that causes harm after reviewing documents submitted.
This one should be a no-brainer – not good for you or our oceans!
There is no time – or reef – to waste. We have to act NOW to save a critical part of our Keys!

There is no science to support a ban. Climate change is killing coral. Full stop. If you want to help coral, stop driving your car, stop driving boats that spew oil and gas into the water, stop using fertilizer and pesticides on your lawns..
No! I like my sunscreen and I count on it for work and my family counts on it for outside activities.
Aside from the fact that we have a moral obligation to protect such life forms, especially from ourselves, we are cutting our own economic throats by permitting toxins to affect the reef, by not controlling agricultural run-off, by not doing everything possible to clean our wastewater — here’s looking at you, Marathon — and through not controlling the amount of garbage boaters and fishermen allow to escape their control.
there are plenty of alternatives without the toxic chemicals
Yes, it will be the hard choice to look a little whitish, but it’s almost literally the least we can do

Without a ban, the effort to switch to safe products on our own will be difficult as the safe products “hide” among the proliferation of harmful ones. If I had not spent time educating myself on ingredients to avoid, I would have been unable to tell which products are reef safe.
Please clarify, this will be a 1 year phase out of sunscreen product containing those two ingredients.
I feel that since there are alternatives, we need to do what we can to protect our greatest natural resources.
the sale yes but unsuspecting visitors should not be held criminally liable for using something that is sold other places ..that justs reeks of being a tourist trap gotcha law
Hope this is passed soon. The Bahamas & Mexico have done this 20 years ago.

For the health of our bodies and to not place further stress on the reef, the ban should be supported!
Why not ban them?
We need to protect our reefs and find alternative methods to protect ourselves from the sun.
If products hurt our coral and sea creatures of course we must ban them. We stopped putting lead in paint and gasoline to save our environment too!
