Artists in Paradise Celebrates Twenty Fine Years

When a few friends came together calling themselves artists in paradise to temporarily show their art work in a vacant store front, they could not know that they would begin a successful art gallery still thriving twenty five years later.

Success followed as the art friends formally created Artists in Paradise Gallery with 19 founding members. A unique feature of cooperative middle Keys gallery is member involvement in all aspects of running the business.

All are invited to attend as Artists in Paradise hosts a twenty five year anniversary party to celebrate this landmark event with a brunch, Sunday, April 14 from 11am to 1pm at the gallery in the Winn Dixie Plaza on Big Pine Key.

From the original 19 members to almost 40 artists now, the gallery features oil, acrylic encaustic and watercolor painters plus a broad array of jewelry, pottery, weavers and sculpture with the focus still on fine art. Throughout the years and through many hurricanes, the gallery has survived and thrived. Long-time supporters of the gallery see the many positive changes; the addition of evening classes, visiting artists in the front windows and nearly weekly receptions in season.

Gallery members credit their longevity to community involvement. Artists in Paradise Gallery prides itself on inclusiveness inviting the Paradise Quilters, area schoolchildren and Florida Keys Council of the Arts Mosaic Project among many others to exhibit at the gallery. Artists in Paradise Gallery is still in its original location on Big Pine Key in the Winn Dixie Plaza. For further information about the Twenty Five Year Anniversary Brunch or other gallery functions, call 305-872-1828 or check the Facebook page.
