Art Teacher Holtkamp Commended by Mayor

Mayor Craig Cates last week commended Horace O’Bryant School art teacher Katie Holtkamp for her dedication and service to the children of Key West.

Ms. Holtkamp is a dedicated teacher who inspires her students, urging them to be forward-thinking citizens. Her students recently took part in the City’s Recycled Robot Art Contest. Her student Julia Nurkiewicz created one of the winning pieces.

“The environment in Key West is very important to our way of life and so are the arts,” reads the commendation, “which is one of the reasons this art contest is a good lesson for students. It makes them look at their resources and how they can be repurposed.”

Mayor Cates thanked Ms. Holtkamp for her extraordinary commitment to her students who will one day be leaders in our community.

Waste Management, in support of the contest, awarded a $100 gift certificate to each teacher to help them buy art supplies for their classes.
