American Red Cross and Star of the Sea Foundation Partner to Support Hurricane Irma Victims in the Keys

Miami, FL September 19, 2017 — The American Red Cross South Florida Region is partnering with the Star of the Sea (SOS) Foundation in response to the overwhelming generosity of Florida residents who want to help those affected by Hurricane Irma.  SOS Foundation will assist with collecting donated food, clothing and other household items and will distribute them to people who reside in the Keys.

The American Red Cross has a launched a wide-ranging relief effort to provide safe shelter, food and comfort to people affected by Hurricane Irma.  It takes time to store, sort, clean and distribute donated items—which diverts limited time and resources away from helping those most affected.  The SOS Foundation is better positioned to accept, sort and distribute donations made by the community.

“We know Americans are generous and want to do everything they can to help after a disaster,” said Emily Borababy, Executive Director for the American Red Cross Miami and the Keys Chapter. “That’s why—in order to better serve the residents from the Keys—we are partnering with the SOS Foundation for household goods, clothes and non-perishable foods distribution.”

“SOS Foundation is delighted to be partnering with the Red Cross,” said Tom Callahan, Executive Director, Star of the Sea Foundation, “and are very grateful for their support for the residents of Monroe County suffering from the effects of Hurricane Irma.”
