Unbelievably, we may end up “losing” in Iran, despite decapitating their leadership and pulverizing their military. All because of the Strait of Hormuz.  This is so stupid, on two levels.

First, why not use robots to wipe out the launch sites bombing the Strait?  We are already using them as minesweepers, but it’s hard because of the bombing threat to the ships deploying them. With all the fear of AI war, here’s an obvious way to see the plus side.  Our AI geniuses must be able to develop a brigade of search-and-destroy robots to prowl the desert launch sites, guided by  squadrons of drones.  This is no longer war.  It’s more like getting your teeth drilled.

Also, let Iran know we’re patiently in it for the long run, as they have been in their nascent nuke program.  No giant carriers, no Marines, fewer and fewer expensive Patriot missiles needed.  Let them fear our version of Skynet mowing their lawn.

Second, for immediate relief at the pump, appreciate that WE don’t need Gulf oil.  We extract more of our own than we use.  The only reason our gas prices are going up is to enrich our oil companies and their lobbyists.  We simply need to stop selling our oil, and create an independent pricing system for just us. One of my old MBA teams could work out how to do so.

This lack of initiative is not due to politics.  It’s just our military, fighting today’s war with yesterday’s weapons and strategy.  And the power of the oil oligarchs, who are going to make an extra $60 billion this year.
