Airline employee arrested at Key West airport

A 42-year-old American Airlines employee upset over losing security access due to a previous incident was arrested at Key West International Airport on Saturday afternoon.

Angel Arley Medeiros of Key West was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

Airport Deputy Vince Pacifica approached Medeiros about 3 p.m. after receiving word from airport authorities that Medeiros needed to surrender his Secured Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge after a previous incident in which Medeiros reportedly allowed screened airport guests back into an area open to the public.

SIDA badges are used to designate those employees or law enforcement, in accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration, who are allowed in certain secured areas of the airport.

Deputy Pacifica found Medeiros in the departure terminal office and explained the situation.

Medeiros became angry, refused to comply and shoved Deputy Pacifica as he walked out into public view of the terminal. Deputy Pacifica was forced to restrain and handcuff Medeiros in public view.

Medeiros was taken to jail.
