Habitat for Humanity’s announces winners

It’s official! With a record 13 acts performing Art Humphries and the Lower Keys Horny Horn Section are in first place in their categories at the end of Round 1 of Votes for Notes, an annual music competition held for the benefit of the two Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the Lower Keys. The audience “votes” with cash donations dropped in the performers vote bucket while they perform. The Band and Solo/Duo performers who garner the most in donations to Habitat will each win a Prize Package of gift certificates and other items as well as $250 cash!

On Wednesday (9/23) at Dockside Tropical Café in Marathon Art Humphries, who has raised hundreds of dollars for Habitat competing as a solo act every year, garnered the most votes in the Solo/Duo category.

This was the first year for this group of season veterans, the Lower Keys Horny Horn Section, to officially enter in the Band Category. All these guys participate in various ways each year and at 93 years, horn player Mickey Belin surely wins the eldest performer at Votes for Notes.

Round 2 is Wednesday, September 30, 7-9 pm, at Boondocks Grille and Draft House on US 1 on Ramrod Key.

Round 3 is Tuesday, October 6, 7-9pm, at Smokin’ Tuna in Key West.  The Grand Finale returns once again to Smokin Tuna where the Prize Package and $250 cash will be awarded to the Band and Solo/Duo performer who garners the most in donations, aka “votes,” to Habitat after 3 Rounds of performing.  Habitat is very grateful to Dockside, Boondocks and Smokin Tuna for providing the $500 cash prize which will be split by the winners.
