Mary Vanden Brook Retires from The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County
[Monroe County, Fla.] — The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County (DOH-Monroe) today announces Mary Vanden Brook has retired after 13 years of dedicated service in the role of Assistant County Health Department Director. Her last day working at DOH-Monroe was Friday, October 7, 2022.
“It will be hard working without Mary as she was such a pivotal part of our county health department,” said Bob Eadie, Administrator and Health Officer, DOH-Monroe. “She will be missed.”
“Mary has been a great mentor to so many of us working at the health department. She can always be counted on to lend a hand, provide support and reassurance and make us laugh!” said Carla Fry, PhD, MSN.
Fry has filled Vanden Brook’s vacant position as Assistant County Health Department Director.
“Carla Fry is a very skilled nurse and administrator,” said Vanden Brook about her successor. “Since Carla joined the department of health earlier this year we have seen an influx of new young talent. And that’s really exciting. So the department of health will be in good hands.”
As for Vanden Brook’s plans for her retirement, she said “I have some trips planned and I like to garden. I have about 500 orchids to take care of. My yard is my sanctuary and I’m going to spend a lot of time outside.”
Bob Eadie and the DOH-Monroe thank Mary for everything she has done for public health in our Florida Keys community for the past 13 years. And the entire department wishes her a happy and healthy retirement.
