Parking Fines on Monroe County Roads Increase to $200 to Deter Illegal Parking
MONROE COUNTY, FL – To deter illegal parking in Monroe County, especially near parks and beaches, the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) increased the parking fines on county roads from $20 to $200. The fines are a noncriminal civil penalty. The increase takes effect immediately.
At the May 2021 BOCC meeting, Commissioner Mike Forster showed various pictures and videos of areas where parking violations on “No Parking” posted county roads repeatedly occur. Many violators easily accept a $20 ticket in exchange for a day of parking.
County staff has already started updating the signage on county roads to include the $200 noncriminal civil penalty verbiage. This did not add any additional no parking zones than the ones already in place.
