Man arrested for illegal dumping of concrete

A 26-year-old Homestead man was arrested Wednesday for dumping concrete in a posted wildlife area.

Pedro Vasquez was charged with felony littering.

Deputy Christopher VanHoose was sent to the 3000 block of Grouper Drive in Marathon at 8:51 a.m. regarding illegal dumping of construction materials. Deputy VanHoose arrived to find three piles of concrete on a grassy area near mangroves. Some of the concrete was dumped directly in front of signs labeled “wildlife and environmental area.” Deputy VanHoose noted the area was not private property.

Deputy VanHoose approached construction crews working near the area. One of the workers, Vasquez, eventually admitted to dumping approximately 350 pounds of concrete.

Vasquez was taken to jail.
