A 55-year-old Homestead man was issued a mandatory notice to appear in court after he was found to be in possession of a goliath grouper early Sunday morning.

Jorge Vazquez Herrera was fishing near Mile Marker 83 area off U.S. 1 in Islamorada when he was approached by Deputy Ana Coello, who asked to see his catch.

He showed the Deputy a 21-inch goliath grouper, which are illegal to harvest or possess as per state law.

Deputy Coello cited Vazquez Herrera and returned the grouper to the water dead.
