Spawning Aggregation Talk on Nov 20th
On Wednesday November 20th at The Studios of Key West beginning at 6:00pm, William Heyman, Ph.D. will present an educational talk titled “Multi-species Fish Spawning Aggregations: What Are They and Why Are They Important?” The presentation will feature amazing underwater videos by Dr. Heyman and others showing what he has learned over more than 20 years of research. Admission is free. The event is co-sponsored by Last Stand and Reef Relief.
Dr. Heyman has been actively pursuing the science and conservation of fish spawning aggregations in the Caribbean since 1998. Will is best known for his work with fishers – locating and identifying numerous spawning aggregations in Belize and working with those same fishers and their government to come up with reasonable protective measures. He is widely considered one of the world’s leading researchers in the field of reef fish spawning aggregation studies.
Dr. Heyman earned his masters and doctorate degrees in Marine Sciences from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. Currently he is Senior Marine Scientist for LGL Ecological Research Assoc., Inc. He has published extensively on the topic.
